1883-O VAM-26A 083018
Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.
OBVERSE ATTRIBUTES: A minimal partially incused
n of the first word in the Reverse Motto,
In God We Trust, is located along Liberty's Neck Line. That letter transfer can be difficult to see in a photograph. A partially incused
us of the last word in the Reverse Motto is found in the Hair Vee.
Markers: None.
REVERSE ATTRIBUTES: A faint raised Obverse Designer's Initial
M is found above
od of the second word of the Reverse Motto.
Markers: None.
Please note that the Base Description of the VAM-26A includes overlapping reeding. The extent of the overlap is about ten segments.
SPECIAL NOTE: In 2015, the VAM-60A was eliminated as it was determined to have been the same as the VAM-26A. VAM-60 was determined to have been the same as the VAM-26.
COMMENTS ON THIS COIN:
- This coin has all of the attributes normally associated with the VAM-26A, and has been certified as a VAM-26A by the ANACS.
- In addition to the doubling seen at the right interior wall of the Ear, it appears that the top outside edge of the Ear is doubled as well as at the bottom tip of the Ear Lobe. Please see Image 18s in the Section entitled Photographs of Special Interest.
- The partial incused n of this specimen is not clearly seen, at least not to me.
- While the Mint Mark is set slightly to the left, it appears to be tilted a tad to the left as well. Please see Image 18t in the Section entitled Photographs of Special Interest.
- I was unable to get a clear photograph of the overlapping reeding through the plastic slab. However, the overlap is present at 9:00 o'clock.
