Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.

Obverse: III2-5.
  • Date is set barely at the Near position. Die crack located across the entire bottom of the date terminating at the bust point. Small die breaks between the 1-9-0. Small die crack at the top left of the 1 in the date proceeding thru the bust point and terminating below LS1.
  • Die gouge at the rear of eye. Die chips in eye.
  • Three die gouges in the left upright of the E in LIBERTY. Two distinct polish marks in the left arm or the Y in LIBERTY.
  • Long polish line at the base of the right cotton boll.
  • Die scratchs/gouges inside the ear opening.
  • Die crack above the E.
  • Die crack in lower hair above the hair vee.
  • Heavy polish lines just below the ear lobe in front of the hair curl.
  • Heavy polish lines at the rear of the neck.
Reverse: C3l.
  • Mintmark is set hight, centered and upright.
  • Die break in the upper part of G of God.
  • Dense polish lines in the eagle's upper tail feathers and the wing-neck gap.
  • Thick horizontal polish lines in the eagle's left leg triangle void.
  • Die crack starting on the right side of left star that proceeds to the top and runs the length of and terminates at the top of the D in UNITED. Die breaks at the top left of U and top left of N.
  • Die crack at the inside of the loop of the D in UNITED that progresses thru the eagles right wing tip into the top of STATES OF to/through the eagles left wing tip terminating on the underside of the wing.
  • Large die chip in the upper seriff of the E of STATES.
  • Die die break between the AT and TE of STATES.
  • Tributary crack into the denticles between the AT of STATES.
  • Die crack starting above the A in AMERICA that runs along the top of the MERIC to terminate just short of the A.
  • Tributary die crack from the top left of the E in AMERICA that ends in the denticles above the M.
  • Die crack across the leaves of RW4-RW3.
