1901-O VAM-1A 013120
Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin. The VAM-1A is a Super CD Variety. OBVERSE ATTRIBUTES: A Die gouge can be seen in the interior of the Ear. This is a double clashed Obverse with a faint incused n of the first word of the Reverse Motto, In God We Trust, found just off Liberty's Neck Line. This coin is an early mintage Morgan as a double incused t in the last word of the Reverse Motto, Trust, is quite easily seen in the Hair Vee at the edge of Liberty's lower hair. Marker: None. REVERSE ATTRIBUTES: None. Marker: None. COMMENTS ON THIS COIN:- This coin has all of the attributes applicable to the VAM-1A and has been certified as a VAM-1A by the ANACS.
- The Date is set in the Normal position with the digit 9 closed.
- A clash event has left a clash mark behing the lower third part of the Phrygian Cap (Cap Vee region).
- The bottom of the Ear Lobe is doubled. This is not noted as an attributable feature.
- The Reverse only shows a single clash event as having occurred.
- Die file line activity can be seen in the cavity of the D-Void and immediately to the right of the D-Void.
- Die file line activity can be seen in the Wing/Neck Gap (the Crook).
- Die file line activity can be seen in and around the Wreath Bow.
- This coin has a slight counterclockwise Reverse rotation.
- A feature that has been described as a Snail due to its shape, appears on a leaf of Right Wreath Cluster #4. This feature is of the Hub and is seen on Morgan Silver Dollars that were minted from at least 1881 through 1904.
