Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.

Obverse: III2-34
  • Date set at the Far position and slightly slanted.
  • Die crack thru the bottom of the date. Die break between the 8s.
  • Several thick polish lines and debris in the LIBERTY banner.
  • Clash of eagle's wing feathers below the ear at the hair line and to the left of the hair curl in front of the D-void.
  • Thick clash line of the top of the eagle's right wing at Liberty's neck. No letter transfer.
  • Wreath clash marks at Liberty's lips and at the cap vee.
  • Die cracks thru LS1-LS4 with a raised die break between LS4-LS5.
  • Raised die breaks between RS3-RS4 and RS4-RS5.
  • Polish lines and gouges at the top of the Phyrgian cap.
Reverse: C3a.
  • Fine polish lines in the upper tail feathers, leg voids and wing-neck gap.
  • Distinct polish lines on the left wing about breast level.
