Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.

Obverse: III2-13
  • Date set at the Near position. Slight doubling at the top right of the 1 bottom cross bar.
  • Die crack from the right side of the bust point into the 1 flag and from the left side of the bust point to LS1.
  • Heavy polish lines throughout the hair, LIBERTY and cotton bolls. Die chips in the D-void.
  • Two thick die scratches in the ear opening.
  • Die "gouge" at the top left serif of the I and U in PLURIBUS.
Reverse: C3a.
  • Heavy x-pattern polish lines in/around the wreath bow.
  • Thick die scratch below the 3 berries at RW5.
  • Long horizontal polish lines in the lower tail feathers.
  • Two thick horizontal polish lines in the lower part of the upper tail feathers above the arrow/olive branch intersection.
  • Fine polish lines in the upper tail upper tail feathers and the leg void triangles.
  • Die chip between the ends of left wing feathers 11-12, as counted from the top.
  • Weak die crack from the O of ONE into the left star.
  • Nearly invisible die crack across the top of UNITED.
  • Weak die gouge at the bottom right foot of the M in AMERICA.
