Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.

Obverse: III2-1
  • Date set at the Normal position. Spike in the upper loop of the first 8.
  • Fine, dense polish lines in the hair, LIBERTY, in/around ear, rear of jaw and in/around the cotton bolls.
  • Gouge above the B in LIBERTY.
  • Minor doubling at the top of the Phrygian cap.
  • Polish marks in/around Liberty's eye. Erosion in front of the eye.
Reverse: C3a.
  • Mint mark is centered and upright with a slight tilt to the left. Heavy polish lines in the lower loop.
  • Pitting across the entirety of the eagle.
  • Gouge at the inside of the eagle's right leg.
  • Pitting/die chips and a diagonal gouge at the eagles wing/neck gap.
  • Large die chip on edge of eagle’s right wing just above LW1.
Comments: This is a great VAM. Amazing huge die break/chunk on the right wing.
