OBVERSE ATTRIBUTES: The Date is doubled at 878; the 8s at the right side of the upper loop and the 7 at the top and at the right side. The letters
LUR and
US of the Obverse Motto,
E. PLURIBUS UNUM are doubled on the left side. The letters
S and
UNU of the Obverse Motto are doubled on the right side. The Obverse Legend,
LIBERTY, is doubled downward. Liberty's Eyelid is tripled. Her Nostril, Lips, Chin, Neck, and lower hair are doubled. The Cotton Leaves are doubled at the top and the Wheat Leaves are a bit doubled on the right side. A Die chip is seen in the middle of Liberty's cheek, and two chips are seen at the lower right Cottom Leaves. A thread-like feature is seen below the Liberty's Ear next to the front of the Hair. This Variety's fourth right star is not broken.
Markers: None.
REVERSE ATTRIBUTES: A feather located between the Eagle’s Right Wing and Leg has been engraved and the center of both of the Eagle's Wings have been over polished. The
R in the last word of the Reverse Motto,
In God We Trust, is broken. The letters
TED,
STATES, and
AMER in the Reverse Legend,
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are doubled, but very slightly so.

NOTE: This is a Top 30 1878-S Morgan Variey.
COMMENTS ON THIS COIN:
- This coin has all of the attributes associated with the VAM-5 and has been certified as a VAM-5 by ANACS.
- This Varieties Eyelid is noted as being tripled. However, it actually could be quadrupled.
- It appears that Liberty's Ear is doubled at the inside left and right walls.
- The lower Arrow Head appears to be doubled.
- The D in the Denomination, ONE DOLLAR, is doubled.
