Silver Dye Photography Administrative Guidelines for Members.

Silver Dye Photography, first and foremost, is about high resolution photography. There are no image size restrictions. There are no global format restrictions. Members are encouraged to develop pages according to their judgment and creative flare. There are, however, administrative guidelines. Participating in the spirit of these guidelines will assure optimal site performance and administration. Backup routines, disaster recovery operations, and link rendering will execute with maximum effectiveness.

Page Naming

  • Please use a WikiWord.
  • Please abide by warning popups advising that a non-Wiki name is about to be created. Please do not create it.
  • Why? To guard against "bugs." Optimize site administration. Optimize the search engine.
  • Please take the breadcrumb into consideration when setting the parent page.

File Naming

  • Please include a unique identifier (your initials) for all uploaded files. Why? Optimizes the search engine. Optimizes site administration.
  • Please do not use hyphens or spaces in file names; use underscores in place of spaces. Better yet; use WikiWords (no non-alphanumeric characters) to increase readability of filenames. Why? Cross-platform compatibility. Optimizes site administration. Optimizes link rendering. Minimizes the probability of evoking a bug. Better site security.
  • The menu is the only resource on Silver Dye Photography that is maintained with a global format.
  • The Year/Mint and Variety Base pages are part of the menu

Page Formatting

  • A basic philosophy of Silver Dye Photography is that no constraint is placed upon the creative talents of the members. See WikiCulture.
  • There are no formatting guidelines for personal pages and there never will be.
  • You are welcome to adopt and build upon the page templates/formats of other members.
  • You are welcome to start from scratch and create your own page template and formatting.
  • Only the left menu bar and menu pages are maintained in the spirit of a template/format. Nonetheless, be free to make your own custom menu pages.

Uploading Files

  • Silver Dye Photography shall be the premier Internet site for viewing high resolution photography of the Morgan Silver Dollar.
  • There is no restriction on the file size or pixel dimensions of images.
  • There is no restriction on the number of file attachments that are uploaded to a page.
  • If your camera/lens can handle the resolution, please do not throttle the image size.
  • There is no reason whatsoever to throttle image size out of respect for storage space or site performance.
    • The FOSWiki infrastructure automatically optimizes performance independent of file size.
    • The visitor's data transfer is automatically adjusted to what the visitor chooses to view.
  • Please upload files to the page that displays the image rather than link attachments from other pages.
    • Why? Site optimization. Each page on Silver Dye Photography is like a self-contained web site.
  • If the same file is to be displayed on multiple pages; please upload it to each page.
    • Why? Performance optimization is fully automatic for files attached to the page that displays them.
    • FOSWiki allows linking to attachments on other pages but please do not. Optimization and administration become compromised.
  • Silver Dye Photography has more storage space available than you can imagine.
